I recently reviewed a report by ABTA on travel habits and it got me thinking about the changing way people book holidays. When I was growing up my parents would walk into a mainstream travel agent and sit on the customary 2 chairs whilst me and my siblings would flick through glossy destination brochures asking if we could go to Disneyland 😊

So here are three interesting sound bites:

  • Today, 4 in 5 of us (81% for the statistic lovers amongst us) book their holiday through an online medium
  • 1 in 5 of us booked via a Tablet device
  • A city break is most popular type of holiday (48% of us)

A rising trend has been the use of travel professionals in the past 12 months where over one third of us have used at some point. The most common reason as to why was to save time and the confidence factor of using a travel professional to help them make a decision.

I personally see similar changes in the market. Whilst we have lots of choice online it’s a job in itself searching the online market. I love taking the hassle away from my customers and helping them secure great holiday deals.
